I came to yoga sideways, through a running injury that took eighteen months to stop being a daily conversation. What fixed it was not stretching harder. It was learning to breathe into positions instead of bracing against them. I teach a strong vinyasa practice, but the intensity is never the point. The point is that you finish able to notice what your body is telling you, and that you have some idea what to do about it. I say less than most teachers and I leave longer gaps, because the useful part usually happens in the silence after the instruction. Most of the people I see sit at a desk and carry it in their shoulders and hips. We work there. If you have an injury, bring it; I would rather build a class around what hurts than pretend it is not in the room.
