I train people who have decided, usually somewhere in their thirties or forties, that they would like to be strong. Not lean, not shredded. Strong, in the sense of being able to carry things, get off the floor easily, and still be doing this at seventy. That means barbells for some people and bands and bodyweight for others, and I genuinely do not mind which. What matters is progressive load, consistent attendance, and technique that holds up when you are tired. I am blunt about the fact that this is slow. Strength is one of the few things in wellness with an unambiguous evidence base and an unambiguous requirement: you have to keep turning up.
